Laser Technology

What does "Laser" stand for?
LASER stands for "Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation".

Was ist laser light?
Light is a form of energy that originates in matter and consists of waves. The wavelength of laser light depends on the laser medium used and determinates the colour of the emitted light. Whereas normal light sources emit light of many different wavelengths, the so-called spectrum, laser light is coherent and monochromatic.

What kinds of medical lasers are there?
In the medical field there are different kinds of lasers that can roughly be classified into two main types:

1. Strong lasers that can be used to cut or coagulate tissues - often referred to as surgical lasers because they can replace the surgeon's scalpel. Only physicians and veterinary surgeons may use these kinds of lasers. (e.g. ora-laser jet)

2. Weak lasers that can be used for the stimulation of cellular functions - often referred to as soft lasers (e.g. ora-laser 2100). Soft lasers evoke photochemical reactions in tissues that are neither caused by solar or artificial light.
